This survey report examines how COVID-19 affected business activity and private-sector employment in Fiji in April 2020, documenting sharp declines in sales, widespread redundancies and reduced hours, weak business confidence, and projected recovery periods.

This survey report presents findings from a rapid assessment of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on Fijian businesses and private-sector employment. Conducted between 2 and 27 April 2020, the survey gathered responses from businesses across Fiji and examined redundancies, reduced working hours and wages, declines in sales and business activity, business confidence, sustainability, and expected recovery periods. The findings point to severe and widespread disruption, including major reductions in business activity, significant job losses and reduced hours, and uncertainty over how long affected businesses could remain viable.
