Election Reporting Guide for Fijian Journalists

This practical handbook was developed to help Fijian journalists and media organisations prepare for and report responsibly on the 2022 general election. It explains Fiji’s electoral system and processes, the legal framework governing election coverage, and core standards of fairness, balance, accuracy and impartiality. The guide also addresses hate speech and inflammatory language, conflict-sensitive reporting, the visibility and fair treatment of women candidates, newsroom planning, journalist safety, gifts and payments, story preparation, polling and counting coverage, and practical editorial checks. It is intended to strengthen professional, equitable and democracy-supporting election journalism in Fiji.
