Determinants of COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy in Fiji

This report examines the drivers of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy in Fiji through a survey of 1,047 adults. It analyses acceptance, safety concerns, trusted information sources, misinformation and demographic differences, and recommends strategies to strengthen public confidence and uptake.

This research report investigates the determinants of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy in Fiji using an online survey of 1,047 adults conducted between 25 June and 10 July 2021. It examines willingness to accept vaccination, perceptions of vaccine safety, concerns about side effects, demographic differences, trusted sources of information, exposure to misinformation and the influence of traditional and social media. The study identifies variations across age, gender, ethnicity, religion and geographic division, and assesses the role of trust in government, medical institutions and experts. It concludes with recommendations for government and relevant agencies to strengthen communication, improve access to accurate information and support successful COVID-19 vaccination programmes.
